Kylie needed a suits of armour for her forthcoming world tour. It would be worn most nights for many, many months , so metal was out of the question, and it had to fit perfectly to her body. Will Baker has been Kylie's friend and stylist for many years. He had heard of the work I had done with Alexander McQueen so, when he approached me he understood straight away my need to make a full-body-plaster-cast to ensure a good body-fit for the fibreglass suit-of-armour that we would later make from it. The body-cast took the whole day and was filmed for a later documentary so we had time to discuss the proposal that each show would start with Kylie emerging through an opening in the stage-floor. She would appear fully covered in shining armour but she didn't want to sing 'suited-up' so the big problem was to figure out how the pieces could be removed from her body during this critical opening sequence. Many ideas were put forward but I wanted to achieve a slow-motion robotic feel to it so I ended up visiting the local Hackney car-breakers for second-hand rear wind-screen-wiper motors. All they needed was a voltage reduction and some silver paint. The rehearsals with Kylie at Elstree Studios went very well but it was decided that one of the electricians how to operate the sequencer console from below stage. He knew how things were going above him by keeping his eye on the monitor screen: Take a look at the video:
