McQueen.

One of the exhibit's more artistic items is a metal corset with a 15-inch waist, thought to be from the nineteenth century in the style of the sixteenth century. A ravishing, enlarged and modern variation of a metal corset was created by Alexander McQueen in his Cossack ensemble with silver wire top by Shaun Leane and Kees van der Graaf, shown above, that was part of his "the Overlook" collection. McQueen and his collaborators "created a tightly fitted carapace to which the torso is forced to conform," the catalogue noted. "Like the prosthetic metal corsets of the sixteenth century, the McQueen piece controls more than the flesh; because of its high neck, short 'sleeves,' and extension to the upper hipline, it also circumscribes the body's movements. While the designer calls the piece his Cossack top, it has less to do with loose full-sleeved asymmetrical overblouses than it does with the stiff hieratic imagery in Russian Orthodox icons." In any event, surely most Medieval knights would have been most impressed with this coat of mail.

Rankin got an opportunity to take some shots of Blondie at the 'Dazed' studios. There was no time for back-drops, so a full sheet of Plexi red was the quick choice.

A few days later, Tori Amos was in town so Rankin phoned up again. This time he wanted a transparent bodice, but when we turned up Tori asked us to preserve her
modesty by sending someone out to purchase a spray-can of gold paint. It was only minutes after we gave the bodice a quick-spray that she was shot in a few unrehearsed poses. This image appeared in the press the following day.

Aimee Mullins.

Alexander McQueen is a good friend of brilliant photographer Nick Night. Rankin and Jefferson Hack of 'Dazed' invited McQueen to be the art-director for the next issue which was to feature a striking series of studio-shots that Nick had just completed of Aimee Mullins. The issue immediately became a collector's piece and Lee invited Aimee to model for his next show in London. The fact that she was a double-amputee simply meant that she would get a pair of specially carved wooden legs.
Aimee Mullins recently said that she doesn't consider herself disabled. She just has different legs for different occasions. One thing is for sure though , they all cost a lot of money! The skill and craftsmanship that goes into them is only to be admired. Aimee's carbon-fibre "cheetah" limbs are well known, but it is less known that she is a regular visitor , together with Heather Mills, to the world's most outstanding manufacturer of prosthetic limbs : 'Dorset Orthopaedic' in Ringwood, Hants. Bob Watts and his team use flesh-coloured silicone from DuPont to replicate the look and feel of flesh . Aimee has recently featured in the film "Cremaster 3" by Matthew Barney.
